I am new to the home theather world and just purchased (open box) a Yamaha YHT-450 system from BB. The problem I'm having is that I can't seem to get any sound from the front right speaker. All the other speakers I've hooked up work and I haven't changed any of the factory presets on the receiver (that I know of).

What I've tried so far:
1)Tried the left speaker on the right channel wire - no sound
2)Tried the right front speaker on the left channel wire - good sound.
3)Tried the B channel for the right front speaker - no sound.
4)Tried a new stretch of speaker wire - no sound
5)Tried cycling through the myriad of sound mode choices - no sound.

Is the Right channel A and B bad? Before I take this back to BB, can anyone think of something I haven't tried yet?

Sounds like you've proved it is not a speaker problem. About the only other thing to try is the source and/or wiring. If this is a digital connection from a DVDp that you've been listening to, it's probably the receiver that's bad. But if it is an analog connection, check all your wires into the receiver.

You should also double check with the radio tuner if you haven't.

First, I would like to applaud you for your dilligence on checking this problem. You don't know how refreshing it is to have people actually use their brain when trying to figure out why something isn't working right. Normally, the typical response is, it must be broken.

You said it is an open box, maybe whoever owned it before messed with the factory settings. Other than what Spiky said (turning on the tuner would be my first check), I would ensure that the balance in the setup menu is not cranked all the way to the left channel. Why this would be I don't know, but you never know.

If you still get nothing, I would say you did your part and the right channel is blown.

Is there a "test" setting on your receiver? A lot of them have a white noise output to each speaker at a time, and you can listen to the sound rotate around you. If it does, try that.

If you press the menu button and go to manual set up you can access the speaker level adjustments and peg the output on the channel you think is bad and if you still dont get any sound, you purchased a fancy boat anchor. By the way you should get pink noise when you access the adjustments. Good luck

Thanks for the help everyone. I tried everything suggested, (tuner, balance, test) but no joy. The sub is also not putting out any sound, so it looks like I do have a "fancy boat anchor". I'll be returning it this week and seeing if they want to fix it or replace it. Thanks again.
