Being an idiot I just managed to give my two US-spec Pioneer DV-F727s daisy chained DVD changers 220 Vs of real european power!! Lots of sparks, but no bang and so burnt smell. Needless to say both units are now dead.

Does anyone know if they have internal fuses or similar which may have saved the internal organs, or do you think everything is fried?

I am holding my breath, so please give me a quick reply.....

Christopher

I think I can smell them from here (USA)...

sorry man, couldn't help myself. If you are at all comfortable with cracking the case open, (usually 4-6 screws and a phillips head screwdriver) take a look inside and see if you see a fuse near the power cords input. You could try to meter a few points on the board...is it crispy through and through or just at the powers input?

I am comfortable opening the case, something which I've had to do on a number of occasions due to the mechanical weaknesses of the players, but the electricity of it is beyond me. I have sent the players to my usual repair guy, but as the players have never been sold in this country I am not sure whether he can fix them.

The positive things is that the sparks I noticed was at the plug end of the lead, not the players, and there was no burnt smell.....

Just spoke to the repair guy, didn't understand that much of what he was saying, but apparently the 727 use something called "switch mode power supply" (a term with no Norwegian equivalent as he used the English words), which means that the rest of the players are not burnt to a crisp. I'll believe it when I see it... Anyway, he would fix them for me temporarily whilst I wait for new power supplys to arrive (from the US I guess) as a cost of USD 200 apiece.

Now I just hope that the memory chips survived both the blast and the last week without juice, otherwise I have hours, days and weeks ahead of me of boring entering of film titles....

$200!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!sounds like you should get a jar of lube with that! I would bet you could buy new ones for close to what it is going to cost to have them repaired.

Things are expensive in Norway! But the good things is, both changers "remembered" everything they had inside! So I am after all quite happy, no one to blame but myself, and as the old saying goes, sometimes luck is stronger than brains.... :-)

Still really interested in a triple Kenwood 5900M and Entré combo though, looks cool?
