Hey guys, I have been trying to learn more about remotes for a new HT system I have just purchased and i must say I am a bit overwhelmed. I thought choosing the right plasma was tough... Anyway, I want to have all of my components in a closet around the corner from my HT, they will be separated by a large brick fireplace. I know that I probably ned a relay device of some sort, but I don't really even understand what my options are... I believe that if I go rf, then line of sight is not an issue, right? If i go IR, i need a hardwired relay from the signal reciever to my components? Ugg, I need some education on what type to buy so I can research the specific remote for me, althoug I here Harmony is the easiest... Any and all help is deeply appreciated. Gratefool1

MX-850 with MRF-250. Software is easy to use, and RF works great at the range you are describing(within 50 ft.

I second the MX850, MRF250 combo. Download the software from hometheatermaster.com for free. It is one of my favorites and will work well for you.

I like the harmony remotes . There easy to program and work great, but if you cant run wires for an ir repeater your out of luck! You could use a pronto but the learning curve for programming is quite steep, but the limits are endless. The pronto will let you do rf so you dont have the complication of running more wires, but the downfall is you sacrifice labor of pulling wire vs. the price of the rf extender. The most reliable way is to go ahead and bite the bullet and run the additional wires needed for an ir repeater. That way any remote will be compatable. Im not familiar with the home theater master remotes but have heard alot of good things about them from this website. I think that I might be a little bias though. What are you trying to control ex. reciever, tv, tivo? The reason I ask is some remotes are designed to interact with tivos and with other dvr's
