Can anyone help me with getting my Onkyo out of protect?
I have done everything from unpluggin it to clearing it to undoing everything and getting new plugs and speaker wires.
I just found out from my husband that this happen when he turned it on and the volume control was up.
So can anyone HELP me before I drop this out a window.

Protect mode is caused by one of three things:

1. Overheating caused by lack of ventilation;
2. Incorrect wiring of speakers, (ie. not impedance matched or poor wiring condition);
3. Faulty receiver.

Make sure that the unit is not withing a confined cabinet etc., disconnect all speaker wiring and see what happens. If it still enters protect mode, then unit will need servicing.

If you have protect showing in an Onkyo or Integra receiver....

1. Disconnect all speaker wires. If protect no longer shows, your wiring or a speaker is at fault.

2. If protect still shows, your receiver goes to a service center.
