I am currently putting together a home entertainment system in my living room component by component and would like any information / reccomendations for a universal remote that is easy to use and would control all of the components, existing and future.

any good learning remote can take care of that. You need to give some info like what do you want it to do, what do you want it to look like, how much do you want to pay....

Dar Zippy,
I am a system designer and a I am always searching for the perfect remote control forour clients. I have probably programmed and tried everything. I finally decided to give the Harmony/Logitech 688 a shot. It took roughly 30 minutes from software download to download into the remote. My ultimate test is my wife and 10 year old daughter. They caught on in a matter ofminutes and had zero issues with the remote. This is extremely rare for a remote in a price range most clients can afford. I strongly recommend it.

Remotes are a personal preferance, I would suggest using the "clicker picker" on this site to help narrow down your choices. If you ask my opinion, I think the Universal Remote Control MX-700 is a real winner, and the one I bought for my family. If you need an RF option they do make the MX-800, otherwise they are the same. Just as HTS1 has "probably programmed and tried everything", so have I, and I am an CCPI II level installer, and designer as well, so everyone has their own opinion on which remote is best. You have to make up your mind, read a few threads, reviews, and you will get the right one for you. Good luck, and happy programming.
What part of "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." do you not understand?
