I'm trying to tie three TV's into one home theater setup. I'd like to do this, but I'm not sure how it is possible. I can run a cable to each of the TV's, but how do I get the universal remotes in each room to control the DVD player in the basement? It's just fine if all three tv's show the same DVD output, I'll only watch one tv at a time.
Is there a single IR repeater with multiple "IR receivers" that would do this?
Room 1: Receiver DVD Player Main TV Speaker set #1 Universal remote
Room 2: TV Universal Remote Speaker set #2
Room 3: TV Universal Remote

Check out Xantech's website. A simple solution would be Dinky Links in each room fed into a connecting block feeding an emitter that is on the front of the DVD player. Another emitter could be put on a reciever to use zone 2 for one of the tv's. Xantech makes everything you need. Niles does as well, but I have always had much better luck with Xantech pieces.

An other simple solution is to buy three remotes that are RF. And one rf base (if it does not come with it. The Pronto's are RF, HTM has many RF remotes and I think there is even several one for all remotes that are RF

For distribution-
modulate each source with UHF modulators, combine the modulator outputs together with a backwards splitter(may need a small amp such as a Tru Spec TA-15 on the combined output)
Run this one wire to your house distribution and combine with cable/antenna signal
Amplify again if necessary using a TA-25 for antenna, or a cable amp you stole from the cable co.- then big splitter to however many TV's
Mix and match 'em on all TV's (DVD, VCR whatever)

The first product that Xantech made, the Xtra Link, might do for you if you never intend to add satellite to the existing RG6 cable wiring.
The Xtra link has an IR pickup that puts the IR commands onto the cable. You figure out where you want the IR commands to go, then get one Xtra link, additional pickups and signal inserters, add devices that route the signal around splitters, and you end up with an emitter in the room with the DVD player.
This gives you rock-solid IR control. The only cases where you cannot use it is if you have satellite or anything else that puts DC onto the cable.

A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything. "The biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place." -- G. “Bernie” Shaw |
