that NO sound should come from the tv's internal speakers? and only sound from the reciever's speakers. Or should sound come from both for full surround sound? Please let me know.

It depends on what system you have.
If your reciever has five speakers attatched to it then the tv should has no sound and rely on the hifi speakers, but if the tv is doing the decoding and the speakers are coming from the tv then they should. What system have you?

Scott, ideally, you don't use the TV speakers at all. If you have a center speaker(s), the TV should be used as a monitor, meaning picture only. Hopefully, your surround system's speakers far outclass the TV's internal one(s).

a sony ht-1700D...mini home theater system...reciever, dvd, 5 speakers and sub woofer. have dvd, vcr, game console routed to reciever. when vcr on the tv will play through reciever with no sound from tv, is this correct? or should sound come from tv internal speakers and reciever at the same time...
