Would be interested if anyone has had any experience with placing a subwoofer below floor level. With my room arrangement and size, I am considering building an enclosure below the subfloor and venting through the floor in one of the front corners of the room.
I would appreciate your thoughts.

I have seen this done a couple of times, some companies actually sell subs just for that pourpose. They vent through something similar to a HVAC vent. You just need to make sure that the enclosure is completely secured to all joists.

Thanks - I need all the help I can get. I don't want to crawl around under there more than necessary! Any idea how big the vent should be to get good results and how much bigger than the sub the enclosure should be?
Thanks again.

You might want to check out the 'Home Theater In-Floor Sub' at www.partsexpress.com, part number 300-445, $99.90. The catalog mentions that it is made to fit between the floor joists of new and existing construction. The cat. doesn't make mention of an amplifier so you might have to think about powering it with an outboard amp. I would suggest mounting the amp on the same floor as your other A/V equipment. It would be a real pain in the ass having to run up and down stairs to adjust the subs volume, phase switch, and crossover frequency on the amp if it were in the basement.

Tyler,
Thanks! May be just what I was looking for. Probably not audiofile quality, but should pass the wife test.
Thanks,
Bill
