Hey guys and gals....maybe you could help me out on this one.
Just got done hooking up my theater system and I have one problem. I bought a coax in/optical out converter for the digital cable box (Scientific Atlanta Explorer 3100) and I hooked it up to my reciever (Sony STR-DE675) and I get nothing.

Does anyone have any idea what I am doing wrong?

When I pull out the optical line from the reciever there is light coming out of it but I really dont know if that means anything.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help me!!!

The red light proves that the converter is powered up, but it doesn't nevessarily prove that the light is being modulated, i.e., containing an audio signal.

I suggest using a process of elimination if you can. For instance, If you have a DVD player with a coaxial output, see if the converter will decode that source. If yes, you know the problem is in the tuner.

By a systematic method of making sure each component in a system works by using substitution, you can narrow down the problem until you are left with the one weak "link".

I finally realized what the problem was when I got more than 5 minutes to play around with it(you know how it is) there are only a select number of channels that decode into 5.1 digital surround(in my service area) and the rest is just surround sound so the only time I see the little blue light come on the receiver is when it is a true digital signal. So, for now there is only 6 to 10 channels(depending on the movie) but at least I know that I set it up all right and that it was a problem on the service providers end and not mine.

Thanks for the help again!!
