Reading many reviews but still confused. Hope someone can help me.

System: Mit 55857 projection tv
denon receiver 3301
hdtv satellite receiver
ultimate tv satellite receiver
progressive dvd
svhs vcr

Problem: My wife gets confused changing the video for the tv and change the audio settings. For example, hdtv satellite requires the mits DTV input and using the VDP input for digital audio.

Question: Can a remote handle changing the tv inputs to the correct video input(dtv, dvd, vcr, reg sat) and receiver to the correct audio matching the video input selected?

I am confused with the video portion since you toggle up and down to the respective video inputs. How would a remote know to change from VCR to Component 1 video inputs with the next change from VCR input to DTV input? Different toggles? Audio is straightforward. Need to sync the video/audio tasks.

Thanks,
david

You did not say if you are looking for a remote, or how to do it?
1) I think Mitsubishi does have discrete codes like your receiver. because
- a) [Link: remotecentral.com]
- b)[Link: remotecentral.com] (don't know what year your set is, but 1999,2000 (and therefore 2001,2002 probably have them)
- c) [Link: remotecentral.com] the CCF for the WS-55857 (number is the same) has them

So there are good chances that your TV can receive discrete codes, only that it is not part of the function of the OEM remote.

If you are looking for a universal remote o control everything then going with a Pronto might be a good choice, since you will not need to look further

If you already have one, there might be a way to help you look for them (or help you learn them) so tell us what remote you have.

One little thing I can offer is this: to change the inputs on my Mitsu (DLP65000) is a manual job even with my RTI T2. It depends on which input you want and which one you start from. If I am watching HDTV and want to go to my video game that is two inputs up. If I am using SVHS and want to go to Laser it is one input down. Maybe someone out there knows how to program around that? Yes, a capable remote can handle switching the video and then the audio inputs on two separate components. The question is can a user (other than yourself) handle the remote.

My Yamaha remote does macros, but my wife found it was something she just did not want to sit down and learn - plus it won't do everything I'd like to do, and no custom button labeling. I'm getting a Pronto. In the interim I took the remote that came with my RX-V1 and placed it buttons down on my scanner with a sheet of white paper behind it to reinforce the white background. After that I opened the scanned picture in Microsoft "Paint". After inserting bold white numbering next to important buttons I selected the outline of the remote, cleaned the edges of the remote up, (We're still in Paint) and then dropped the picture into a Word.doc that I pre-formatted with two columns. I typed up instructions on how to do basic necessary functions and when I got to the bottom of the first column the picture of the remote magically ended up on the right side of the page in the second column. I then used the drawing tools in Word to insert arrows from some of the frequently used commands to the corresponding buttons. That document is saved on my computer for when the original gets folded, spindled, and mutilated.

Guess what ?? First time out my wife referred to the sheet, used macros, loaded a DVD, watched it, paused for a break, finished the movie, stopped it, and recovered back to basic TV viewing with no coaching. My suspicion is that the Yamaha "cheat sheet" will be in the trash just about the time I get the Pronto programmed. Then I'll have to devise more learning tools.

Bottom line: Look at a Pronto or some rebranded version of the same. I've heard good things (pricewise) about the Marantz/Pronto from friends. If you're a hardbutton person then you'll get out cheaper with another brand. Do your homework (on this site) and make sure you get the features and capabilities you need to operate your system.

I have a pronto, and can say that with a bit of effort and time on your part you can create a menu that an untrained chimp could use!

My remote now has a help button that goes through turning things on then asking what they would like to watch or listen to then switching all the equipment to say dvd and even ejecting the tray and the remote telling them to insert a disc then press continue which closes the tray and then shows the cursor panel for operation!

All they have to do is be able to read.

I learned to create this on the pronto in one weekend and now I am fine tuning commands with jumps to make the process even more simple.

Buy a Pronto, you can do pretty much anything with it. If you would like I could send you my .ccf when you do purchase one to help you get a jump start on programming. There is a bit of a learning curve to the setup but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy.

Duke-One, I'm pretty sure you can find direct input codes for the mitsu's on this site, otherwise a work around would be issue a channel up or down command prior to your video input commands. That way you will start at a known state (the tuner input) and then can initiate the required number of input presses to get to the input you need.

wearewolves: A help menu ! You DO have compassion for the techno-phobes. That blurb alone is bringing me out of the cheap mindset that my macro-capable stock remote had me lulled into. I've been angling toward a Pronto, and you've straightened my course. The thought that people might no longer fear my remote is like cool water. (No wait ! Stay back ! It's mine !)

My home page is as simple as pressing what you want to watch, all the power commands, switching etc are done for you. And the best part is that you can still use the device menu to change devices and not have the system 'burp'. If someone by chance turned off the system and then tried to select a device from the device pull down, the remote will still turn on the correct equipment. Fortunatly I have a NON toad system.

Sheik_Yerbouhti: I turned my home icon in to a help button and made the device load up a different panel at start up for my convenience (video source switching) so if anyone didn't understand they had that option but i couldn't be bothered with it becoming a default home page. if you want me to send you the ccf file just ask my email is dave@instant-print.co.uk all you will have to do is strip it down and convert to your own system ir commands, it might give you a start on understanding prontoedit
