Hi guys,
can an RGB Scart cable be used to out a (non-RGB?) signal to a TV with a Scart input but no RGB facility?

Thanks,
Dan.

If it is what is sold as a "RGB only" SCART, then the answer is NO.

If it is a "RGB capable" SCART (fully wired) then the answer is YES.

You should be able to tell the difference by looking at the number of pins in each connector. If there are much less than full house (e.g. 6-8) the cable is probably "RGB only", but if all 21 pins are there it is probably a fully wired RGB capable SCART. You should check if all pins are connected, though, by using an ohm-meter or similar.

RGB used in domestic DVD and Satelitte system uses the composite connection as sync. Sync is a vital component as it tells the diaplay device when and where to start scanning the next line. You can use and RGB only scart to carry just composite video to your TV. RGB only generally means that the cable does not support audio, s-video, and data comms.
