I have a digital cable box and a DVD player, they both have a coaxial digital audio out and neither has optical outs. Unfortunately my Sony receiver has only one coaxial digital audio input and several optical inputs.
Can I use a splitter ("Y" adapter) at the receiver in order to connect both the cable box and the DVD player? If it is possible to use a "Y" adapter do I use a mono or a stereo adapter?
I look forward to your suggestions!

Larry,
Thanks! I took your advice and bought the coax to optical converter with power supply. Great price. I think that it's the smallest amount of money that I have ever spent on anything for my home theater system!
regards,
Frank
