OK HERE IS AN UPDATE

Here is my rundown on the Home Genius controller.

Connections :

1. Ethernet 10meg -- for Web interface
2. Modem 56k -- for Dialup interface
3. RS232 -- for Flash upgrading and security interface
4. Slave port for Remote LCD display interface
5. hardwire 110vac connection

Installing :

First of all mount the device at eye level, Make the connections with the pin outs on there web site ( you will need to make a Cat5 to modem and Cat5 to Rs232 cable, this is not that hard radio shack has a adapter that all you need to do is insert the pins, (I installed mine on a wall that is backed up to a closet, Not having Cat5 there I installed a wireless access point in the closet and have the RS232 cable there so i can plug it into a laptop to flash the software if needed. I then hardwired the power and set the IP address for the device, who wants to pull it out of the wall when new software is released. (There is a trick here, If you cycle power to the device you MUST change the IP address or you not get back in with the web ie:192.168.1.20 to 192.168.1.21 you will have to do this every time cycle power to the unit.

X10 Control :

As I stated in my other posts it will control all 256 X10 codes, Of that 16 are reserved for HVAC control, Leaving 240 codes for lighting appliances and other devices. The X10 command control unit is part of the device, So you can unplug your CN11A and sell it on E-bay.

Programing :

First of all mount the device at eye level, There is no LCD backlight.
Programing using the keypad is a pain in the butt, It's kind of like surfing the web on a cell phone "A lot of scrolling around. When It's programed it works fine for controlling the device. The only to program the device is from the web interface.

1. Adding Zones this where you name your X10 layout i.e.: living room / bedroom that is up to you, You can setup 32 zones for your house.

2. Adding devices is as easy as 1-2-3-4, from the define menu select the device house code and number, then the type (the selection here is light/appliance/other/2way light/2way appliance) then select the zone, now give the device a name and save it.

3. Adding Routines here you can setup The old Macro X10 functions this will let you setup a number of device commands to fire off from a single X10 code, in this way I setup the 16 codes on my pronto remote fire off devices that are on other house codes(mood lighting). I also setup devices to come on at a set time everyday.

4. Mood Lighting : To give an idea the setup I have. When you select the Movie Time button on the Pronto remote it runs the following Macro :
1. All Audio and Video equipment turns on.
2. Input for video set to DVD volume set to 0% sround sound 5.1
3. Drapes are closed in the family room by X10 command.
4. All lighting in the family room is set to 10%
5. Control of the DVD is form the pronto remote, setting pause on the remote changes the lighting to 60% pressing start sets it back to 10%

5. The HVAC part is a X10 controlled thermostat it uses all 16 codes for off/on heat/cool fan/auto and temp changes and setback

I hope this fills most of you in on this VARY COOL device
