This may sound stupid, but I'm going crazy here!

My remote control (RM-U305) seems to change the display on the receiver (Sony STRDE675) when scrolling through the components (i.e. TV/SAT, Video, DVD/LD) but I can't control them. This only happened out of the blue and I don't think I did anything to it!!!

It was working fine, I could turn off and on all components and, for example, press play on the remote and play a DVD. Now I have absolutley no control - can't even turn on TV! So now I am back to three remotes to control the tv, dvd, receiver and video (all Sony products!)

Like I said it was working fine and now....?

Does anyone have any ideas? It is so frustrating.

My guess is that the receiver is malfunctioning and, while the display on the receiver is changing, the actual control is not swapping.

Any help would be very much appreciated. I'm sorry if I sound vague. I can elaborate if necessary!

Regards,

Madbarry!

P.S. Yes, I have replaced the batteries... it does change the display.. so it has power!

Hey Madbarry,
I would think that the receiver is ok since the remote is still controlling the receiver just fine. I have not seen that problem but I recently had a problem with a customer with a 975 receiver remote (It's looks the same except that the 975 remote has learning capability) and it would not retain its memory after being programmed.

Anyway, Sony tech support told me that on those series of remotes you can reset the remote's computer by taking out the batteries and pressing each key on the remote 2 times. Sounds weird but thats what they said and they also said that it was a common thing to happen that the remote will stop controlling equipment and this resets the remote.

I don't know if this will help, but it won't hurt to try.

Madberry,

Just a thought..Does your remote have a cover that opens and has buttons underneath the cover? If so, maybe you are opening the cover slightly by accident when you hold it and press the button. I recently found myself doing this and was getting a lot of wierd button presses. Just a though....Good

From what I remember the STR-DE635 came with a remote that would flip up and had buttons underneath but the 675 comes with a new one that looks almost the same as the 975 and is flat with no flaps that open.
This is a good point, lets make sure we are working with the same remote.

The remote has no flaps. Just a standard, slimline remote.

I am trying to get hold of a friend of mine who has the same system to swap remotes to check.

So, I gather you guys don't think it's the vreceiver itself?

Thanks for your replies so far!

Cheers!

Guys,

You wont believe this but I did the old "take batteries out and press the buttons twice thing".... AND IT WORKED!

Thank you guys very much.

Problem solved - now if only I could get the missus to stop using the bloody thing!

Cheers,

Madbarry!
