What would you recommend for a DYI univeral/programable remote to handle a Denon 4802,Pioneer Elite 2800 DVD, Makita automated drapes, Dalite Cosmo IR screen, and also the possiblity of light dimming? How much of this will the 4802 remote be able to be programed to do?

The Denon Aktis should be able to do all that. Some people don't think much of it and prefer the Pronto.

The top three remotes in my book (they are all very different, so it is up to you to pick the one that most fits your needs and likes.
Any of the Pronto remotes (Philips Pronto, Pronto Pro, Marantz RC5000, RC52000, RC9200, Yammaha RAV2000, Onkyo Chad) - the 4 to look at are the Pronto, Pro, 5200, 9200
The MX-500 by HTM (but I would wait until the 700 comes out, it is more expensive, but it will be PC programmable, BIG + over the 500)
The Harmony by Easyzapper
(you can find info on all three by clicking on review at the top of the screen, prices range from under 200 to over 1000)

I agree with Anthony, although I can't seem to wrap myself around the Harmony remote! :-)
