Does anyone have info on placing a center channel speaker behind a perforated screen. Is a perforated screen worth it or will my display quality from my DLP projector be degraded?

Normally literature comes with the screen that suggests the distance away from the screen. And obviously you would want it in the center of the viewing area. The perforations will cause loss of picture quality so that is something you have to weight out but for me the location of the center speaker is more important than losing a small percentage of picture quality. It also depends on what type of projector you are using. Preferably one that is brighter.

Don't forget to re-balance the center channel with an equalizer after it's emplaced. Even though the screen is perforated, some frequencies will be attenuated when passing through the perforations. -Bruce

dude get professional help!.....diy's will never learn...go with a stuart film screen and theey will send you a box to help compensate for the speaker being behind the screen.
Ed will be known as the Tiger Woods of the integration business, followed closely with the renaming of his company to "Hotties A/V". The tag line will be "We like big racks and tight holes"...

bwind: Not to discount professional advice, but in addition to the recommended "stuart film screen" you may optionally want to look at a Stewart Filmscreen. Their MicroPerf screens have received the best reviews I've seen. (For a perf'd screen.)

Although their site doesn't mention the Firehawk and MicroPerf in the same sentence, and the Firehawk's spec's say "Perforations: N/A", Stewart does say: "The MicroPerf is available for any flexible front projection screen surface manufactured by Stewart."

Excerpted from Stewart: "Finally! A screen engineered specifically for DLP projection technologies."

diy's will never learn...

Au Contraire; Only today I learned this:

"and theey will send you a box to help compensate for the speaker being behind the screen."

I briefly perused their (Stewart's) site and did not find anything on the box in question, but I defer to the pro's wisdom and trust it exists. (Mayhaps it's on stuart's website.)

But wait! There's more!

dude get professional help!.....

We just got some, from "Chi-town"....

however bwind I would suggest you drive however far you must to audition one of these in a "professionally staged" environment as perf' screens get mixed reviews. Drive to Chicago and audition a "stuart" here! (no walk-ins, by appointment only)

go with a stuart film screen

Trying to trip up the unsuspecting diy's with an object lesson in spelling?

And once in a while a "diy" can even help a professional learn:

bwind: I was reading a post in another thread when I came across this by by Jon3333

"Go over to avscience.com's digital projector forum. Lots of experience with this projector over there."

I went there and the first post was specifically about a problem experienced with the installation of a Firehawk screen. The individual had sought professional help - how professional was his professional? Read "My Firehawk Fiasco" by ericbee and then read Don Stewart's reply directly below that post. Yes, Don Stewart of Stewart. (He's a pro.) There are subsequent comments regarding Stewart in general and from people who've seen the Firehawk.
