I have a Sony STR-DE845. I have the sound hooked up thru the optical cable from my satellite box (it has happend on both a Dishnetwork 4700 and DirecTiVo Phillips DSR6000). When I switch to the satellite, the TV tunes in and I see the picture, but there is a pause of a second or 2 before audio actually comes out. Is this normal?
Cheers,
paksen

Yep!
That's normal. Especially when using the optical connection.

Or possibly your dish is not aligned 'on the nuts'.
Check your signal level in your menus, you should be at least above 80.

Setting your receiver input mode to Optical instead of Auto may make it sync up faster. Works on my Sony V333es.

It will take the receiver a bit of time to decide what kind of digital signal it's being given.
