Hello, just bought a new yamaha dsp-ax1 and i'm having a few problems.

1. The amp dosn't seem very loud, i have to turn it up over half way to get anywhere near decent volume levels. It does go really loud but only with the volume turned nearly all the way up. Is this normal for this amp ?

2. I'm using two Rel Q100e subs and the only way i can get them to work is by selecting BOTH on the LFE output menu, if i select SW nothing happens.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Sluggy,

1. If this is about the same for all sources, then, yes, that's what you should expect. As long as you can get the volume you want, then there's no problem. It just means you have a wider volume range (higher resolution, so to speak). If you got blasted at a low setting, you would have difficulty adjusting for just the right volume.

2. You need to sit down with your owner's manual and read over the bass management information more carefully.

Thanks for your reply, you put my mind at rest about the volume, it just struck me as odd.

As far as the bass management is concerned, i've sorted that, the subs did work on the sw setting, but i still prefer to set it to both.

thanks

Sluggy

Sluggy,
Have you calibrated the system with an Avia DVD &
SPL meter? The Avia DVD bass tuning signals alone
are worth the $50.

Any concern that by selecting BOTH that the MAINS could be damaged by the lower Bass they can`t handle?
I was cautioned about this with my Yam Rx-V1.

Hey Sluggy,

I went from a 995 to a 1000 Yamaha and the newer style has more of an encoder volume know with -db settings as compared to the 995 that had a clock type 1/2 volume is going to get a knock on the door type knob. I noticed you can turn the thing like a full 360 before the volume starts getting loud but hey it keeps turning and getting louder. I think you can also program a pronto to go to preprogrammed volumes with the new Yamaha's also.

Thanks for all the replies,

Doug, the only problem i find is that if i set the lfe to go to the subs only, the mains sound very bass light when i play cd's via the amp, as i don't want the subs on whilst i'm listening to music as the sound can get very fatiguing.

Matt, you got any idea where i might find to codes to preprogramme the pronto, that seems quite an interesting proposition.

I believe you can get the discrete volume codes from the pronto files on this site. Look under the RXV1000 reciever. If your amp supports this feature, these codes will work.

Cheers, Cammo
