please correct me if i am wrong but using a dvd player with digital out is fine and there would not realy be any appreciable diference between a $300 and a $500 player in reguards to cd audio because the receivers dac will converts the bitstream to analog and what you hear is only as good as the receivers dac, granted a more expensive dvd player may have better internals but i am mostly interested in the $300 vs => $500 question reguard in cd audio quality
thanks

KT, I would agree with you; I believe that the "worst" digital audio signal sounds as good as the "best" analog. I can think of better ways to spend $200.

This is true, in the same way that it is true that a cable in the digital bitstream can make a difference...

Understand me correctly here: Some people can hear a difference depending on the digital cable used between CD/DVD and decoder/receiver/amp and some people can't.

I hope I got the message across right.

The difference between a $300 and 500 DVD player for CD audio quality is negligible. Unless there is a problem a specific model, these should be essentially the same. Comparing low-end models to high-end CD transports would be a different story.
