I'm planning to set up my first home mini-theater in the near future, and think I've settled on the following for my speakers:

JBL S38 mains
JBL S-Center
JBL S36 surrounds
AR S300 subwoofer

And I just wanted a bit of a confidence booster that these will do well for me. Since I still don't have a reciever I can't do an in-home demo, and I'd like to buy them online anyways. I'd feel alittle sleazy wasting a B&M's time only to buy them elsewhere...
Here is a link to an fairly acurate floorplan of my apartment:
Entertainment center is on the "left" wall of the living room with couch against the oposite wall, separating the living and "dining" rooms. Should be about a 50/50 mix of HT/music.

If anyone has any advice or just general comments about this selection I'd much appreciate it :) And if anyone has an S38 + S300 combo, what crossover did you find was best?

David_R,
I have the S38's, and I'm happy with them. They have
a nice, snappy, low frequency output. However, I have
the PB10 sub, and it 'shakes the curtains' when the
trains go by. If the S300 is similar to the PB10 you
will be delighted. Get the most receiver/amp you can
buy, because you can't beat WATTS. The S38's sound
nice and very true with the old RCA 50 WATT, I can't
wait to hook them up to a new 110 Yammy.

The S300 is actually pretty similar to the PB12 in basic specs. You can take a look at the S300's specs at crutchfield (they don't sell it anymore, but haven't deleted the product page yet):

The main things I like about it are it's low extention (22 - 120Hz +-2.5dB), 300W sunfire amp, and it just plain looks cool :)

I'm still undecided about my receiver, and was planning on asking about that too. But I figure that's another thread :)

Thanks for the input :)
