I have narrowed my preferences down to these two subs. Currently I'm favoring the HGS-12 because in tests it has slightly higher output than the Sig. I am mainly into home theater...if I do listen to music it's usually Pink Floyd/Eagles/Fleetwood Mac/or something similar on laser or DVD. I am by no means a classical/jazz listener. Heck, I'm from Alabama. We are into Jay Z, DMX, Uncle Luke.....we like hip hop...but we only play that in the truck.
Any references, opinions, suggestions are appreciated.

I have the HGS 15 which is the same amp only a larger speaker and it is amazing. At first I wanted the sunfire original because the thing is incredible for its size. Then I heard the Velodyne and the servo feedback makes sense for limiting distortion. Its up to you but I love my Velodyne, little pricey though

Judging by the technology of each, I would also give the nod to the Velodyne, and the closed-loop servo feedback system. It really does lower the audible distortion, by sending out a voltage that corrects for speaker cone non-linear motion, so the resulting sound is more in synch with the input signal.

I've chunked both of those out the window and decided to go with the SPL1200 which is half the price of the HGS-12 and is not too far behind the HGS-15 in output.
I've convinced myself it will be all I need.
I guess I'll find out soon.

Well I lied, oh my, I tossed all three of those out the door and purchased the HGS-15. I figured it's a once in a lifetime purchase for me, may as well bite the bullet and go for the gusto. Whatever!

Actually the Sunfire Sigs max SPL of 117 or so is 5 db's higher than the HGS-12. About the only sub that touches the Sig in this category which is under $3000 is the SVS Ultra. Check these out. [Link: hometheaterhifi.com][Link: hometheaterhifi.com]
