Which widescreen would you get and why. I am trying to help a friend decide between these two TVs...

Pioneer Elite 720 64" 16x9
Mitsubishi Diamond Series 65908 65" 16x9

Thanks...Tony

I have seen both of these units perform and without a doubt, the Mits will blow the Pioneer out of the water. In my opion the Pioneer can't compete. The only other picture I thought that could compete was the Samsung 55 inch. Again, this is my opion.

Oddly enough, while I think highly of most of Pioneer's products, I have yet to see a quality big-screen TV from them.

I have the pioneer hd 53" wide screen & WOW! (as long as I keep it on the Progressive Scan mode (interlaced setting is terrible). I see the Elite has a little difference in the specs - lower lumens being one.
I went to a store that had the ones I was interested in all lined up around the room. I thought the Hitachi was the standard - the Pioneer blew them all away according to my eyes. The storeowner was the salesperson & the Pioneer was $500CDN less & he recommended it. I would suggest you go to a place where you can see them side by side & let your eyes be your guide- specs be damned! (of course warrantee etc aside)
Hope this helps

I have put in both of the TV's listed. Out of the box the Elite is no-doubt the superior TV. With the tweaks listed the Diamond is every bit as capable of TV as the Elite. The Cabinet finish and quality on either is second to none. I wouldn't call the Elite a slouch in any respect except price. I am SURE you can save enough with the diamond to have it ISF'ed and still probably get a good Prog Scan DVD for the price of an Elite.

B.T.W. I have the Diamond WS65905 and love it.

Matt,

Do you have any thought regarding the Mitsubishi vs. the Hitachi? I'd be looking that the 55" Mits or the 53" Hitachi, 16:9, HDTV Monitor.

Sorry Larry in TN I don't have any info on the latest Hitachi Models. When I was shopping for my own personal TV I wanted not only an excellent HDTV but also a fantastic finish on the cabinet, the Diamond and Elite were the only ones I could find that offered that.

OK, thanks.

Has anyone else compared the Hitachi to the Mitsubishi?

For what it’s worth…
Mitsubishi IS the wide screen company. They stopped building tube TVs so that they could focus primarily on the big screens.
I’ve known people that have had older Hitachi’s, bought under the Sears LXI name, and have regretted their purchase. From what I have heard, it seems that Hitachi was the company that used a cooling fluid in their lenses that discolors over time and has to be changed periodically. I’m not sure if this is still the case, they could have improved their design.
I have had a Mitsubishi for seven years and it still rocks.

Thanks, Phil.

Has anyone chosen the hitachi after having considered the Mitsubishi?

There are people who have chose hitachi over mits. Personally I don't like the cabinet of the mits. It looks like a big box.

Thanks, I'll take a look. I like what I've learned about both brands and am having trouble sifting through all of the info.
