In a few months, a huge house I pre-wired will be ready for components.
Most rooms will be cake- put the Fujitsu plasma on the wall, hook it up to the Onkyo receiver which will control a digital high def cable converter, a SVHS VCR, and the DVD player. Surround sound in every room (2 different surround speaker configuration options in the upstairs bedrooms for furniture/tv placement)

Here's the fun part. In the living room, they will have FIVE plasma tv's! There's a main tv, and 4 others, all in a line above the main plasma (she wants to be able to watch all her soaps at the same time!).

Fujitsu's plasmas will let you decide if it's TV number one, or two, etc for remote control purposes (WAY cool, if you ask me!).
What I need is a way to configure the digital cable boxes (all General Instrument/Motorola boxes), and receivers so that they will work independantly of each other...

Any ideas? Control will most likely be a HTM MX700 (or two)
We can do it my way, or we can do it my way while I yell. The choice is yours.

You might want to ask this in the X-10 forum as well. It seems to me you'll need to set up IR emitters on the Cable Boxes, but I'm not too conversant with the technology.

I assume your problem is all the cable boxes would respond to the same IR codes. If so, you just need a Xantech Gatekeeper. [Link: xantech.com]

Basically what it does is add a prefix to IR codes, so it knows which cable box to pass the signal to.

You could use something less expensive than the Gatekeeper, although that would work well...

It's Xantech model RT8...you would just need to send the correct IR code along with your television function to tell the RT8 what TV you want to do that funtion to...much more simple than the Gatekeeper.

Anyone else notice the "buzz" put out by those plasma screens.... I can't imagine what 5 in the same room would be like.

You're going to have more problems than just Ir routing. Do you know how much ir interferance one plasma throws, multiply by 5? Further, what is the interface going to look like, what will you press to pick tv 1 or tv 4? When running multiple tvs, the best controls are usually large touchscreens? The extra real estate lets the big, simple buttons sit side by side. Think Crestron. BTW, the Gatekeeper will help w/ another problem, making sure the cable boxes are turned on. Good news, the Fujitsu 50's are shipping.

You can use a Pronto in conjunction with an Ocelot and some Probes to simulate a overly expensive crestron system AMX is a far better product than crestron anyway, if you want to spend that kind of money.

Otherwise, when you program your Pronto you would just need to send a macro to the television that includes first the correct IR code to switch the RT8 router to the proper output then the command for the television. If you using and ocelot, you probably wouldn't even need the router, just use the IR add on module for IR routing. It's not that difficuly really.
