I just hooked up a denon 2802 and am trying the several modes to watch tv. Pro logic II seems to have alot from the center chanel and not much from the other 4 speakers. Is this the way it should sound. Also is this the same for music.

Chad, you need to use the pink-noise generator to set channels for equal loudness, preferably last. The relative loudness is program-dependent, but it's true that non-surround-encoded material tends to be center-channel heavy, even in music. I usually listen to music in direct or 2-channel mode.

TV is mostly speaking, very few sound effects. So it makes sense that the center is most used. If the center is the ONLY speaker used, then the signal is mono, not stereo.

Just to add to the Spikester's comment, if your TV broadcast is in Dolby Digital or Stereo, you will get more noticeable effect from the surrounds, and if it says Dolby Surround, you will really notice the jump up in DL2.

Ahem, I presume you mean "TV broadcast is in Dolby PRO LOGIC or Stereo", right Mike?

Well, yes... but the shows I see usually don't say "ProLogic" on the little banner at the beginning of the broadcast; that's why I put it that way... . Since the term "Dolby Digital" covers a lot of ground, it definitely can be confusing.

However, a track doesn't have to be in ProLogic for PL2 to make it better. PL2 does what PL does, only way better: it takes a normal mono or stereo track and gives it that surround pizzazz... . ... Mike
