What is the best subwoofer available for around $200? I know this isn't a lot of money, but has anyone seen a standout in this price range?

The amazing Take 5.2 Energy 8" sub should run about that price in the States. It is a standout, for sure. ... Mike

I would definitely give a listen to sony sa-wm40. It's a great sub for the under $200 price. Check out this glowing review. [Link: cheaphometheater.com]

Check out the BaseCube 8 from Cambridge SoundWorks. I have the BassCube 12 and am very pleased. BaseCube 8 is only $200.

IMHO, You cannot beat the quality for the price with the Cambridge line. I have had a pair of Model Six speakers for almost 10 years. Never a problem, sound as good now as when purchased.

If you have the room for it, you may want to consider the AudioSource SW-15. Search the thread below to find out where you can find it for $200.

For $500, get a HSU Research VTF-2.

Definately concur on the Sony SAWM40.
I have this sub (its my first) and it is awesome.

Go to chapter 5 in Jurrasic Park or Chptr 11 in Saving Private Ryan and you will see !

I agree with dbhenkel on the Cambridge Soundworks choice. I have a Basscube 10" and the think ROCKS!!! I got a refurbished one from www.hifi.com for $169 shipped to my door off of Ebay. It is a little more from their website but still very worth it. Buy it, you'll love it. I guarantee it. Good luck shopping!!
