Hey guys and gals,
I am helping a buddy set up a new home theatre and he would like to buy a new receiver. He is only willing to spend around $200. Any suggestions? Any really good values or just good cheap receivers that perform really well?
This guy isn't an audio afficienado or anything so a good, solid receiver that does Dolby Digital, DTS, and Pro Logic will work.
Thanks in advance and my buddy thanks you.

Don't know of too many receivers under $200 that would qualify.

You may want to check out Sherwood though. If anyone would have a receiver that matches your criteria, they probably would.

Although, you get what you pay for, so be warned.

For that amount, you might want to try a Marantz 4000 receiver from accessories4less.com. They label themselves as a "Marantz Authorized Internet Clearance Center", and they have refurbed units for $200 plus shipping and included is a 1 yr Marantz warranty. I've never ordered from them, but it looks like a good deal.

The Marantz SR-4000 does not decode DTS, only Dolby Digital and Dolby Pro-Logic.

Kenwood vr-407 at onecall.com. [Link: sql.onecall.com] . I think you'd have a tough time finding anything better than this at the under $175 price shipped. I saw this the other day while looking for a receiver upgrade. Does everything you need and I've heard good things about it. Whatcha think?
