I am installing a built-in cabinet to house my HT components. I will need about 10 ft of RCA cable to connect DVD & VCR to receiver. Because my DD/DTS decoder is built into the DVD, I will end up with 11 RCA cables (6 for 5.1 output, 2 for CD output, 3 for VCR). I looked at high quality interconnects but the $$$ will really add up because of the number of cables. Has anyone had +ve experience with using coax (obviously with RCA to Coax adapters at ends) for component interconnects? I could make my own for significantly less $$$.

Thanks, Jim

Jimbo, there are two answers to your question:

First, you can buy quality audio coax (not RG-59 or RG-6, but regular shielded coaxial audio cable) and plugs in bulk, and make your own custom-length disconnects.

Second, you can go with RG-59, and there are RCA plugs available that are made for RG-59, so you don't need adapters.

My opinion is that, for your relatively short distance, you don't need RG-59, and shielded audio cable is more flexible and easier to work with. One piece of advice: Don't forget to slide the plug's housing over the cable first! (We've all forgotten to do this once or twice)
