Was tinkering this weekend, re-wired some stuff, hooked up some digital optical lines and co-axials, etc. BUT now when turning on my DVD player (Sony S550D) the 5.1 digital light comes on - but the 5.1 digital light on my rcvr. (STRDE935)doesn't come on and I'm unsure why - does it not have to come on if the DVD is decoding it? Ugh... should've left well enough alone maybe. HELP!!!

Try reveresing the wires in your set up, It might works, some companies(like AR) make direction sensitive wires and will have an Arrow on the wires to show the correct direction of the signal. If it is going the wrong way the DVD player will still send out a 5.1 signal, but the receiver isn't getting it. This may not be the prob., but it is worth a look.

Got it - since I moved - My S550D DVD was sending it in PCM and not in Digital 5.1! How could I have overlooked the dvd settings! Jeesh! But thanks for the help - since you told me that I double checked all my connections.

Wouldn't it be great if our equipment was smart enough to know how we want it hooked up.

Well, at least you have you pretty blue 5.1 lights shinning now.

I have the same problem with my computer. It should do what I WANT it to do, NOT what I TELL it to do!
