I am using a OFA 9800 remote, and I have the RF receivers's IR output hooked up to a IR block (Imagine) and then IR emitters to my components. I have moved the RF receiver to the other end of the room, because it wasn't consistenly receiving the RF signal from the remote. I added a 50 ft IR extension to the output of the RF receiver, now the IR block sends out a week IR signal (light barely lites up) and doesn't control the components. Is it possible that the long length of extension has made the signal too low to do anything. Most importantly is there something I can use to amplify the signal before it hits the extension..
thanks for any help..

Bill,

Xantech makes an amplified connector block that goes at the emitters. It is a 791-44 ONE ZONE AMPLIFIED
CONNECTING BLOCK. You can read about it at xantech.com . It has outputs for 10 emitters, which is it's main function (to allow lots of emitters on a single system, their unamplified block officially only supports 4), but it can be used to strengthen a weak signal.

I am not familiar with your remote setup, but, does it have an antenna? If it does, you may be able to move the receiver back to the equipment area and simply run a piece of coax to extend the antenna closer or maybe even just higher or away from the equipment. Keep antennas like this away from metal objects, AC power sources, DSS units and DVD players since they can all generate RF that can affect performance.

FYI, we frequently run IR emitters outputting from AMX IROUT cards 100' without any problems.

Randy, thanks for the info I will check out the Xantech site. The RF antenna on the receiver, is similar to a set of rabbit ears except it is only one ear. Extends from a few inches to like a foot high. Anyone know an easy way to extend that antenna, can I use a small clamp and attach that to the antenna and then to some coax to extend my antenna. Where I had the receiver was near AC power, 2 DSS receivers, as well as the rest of my gear, probably why the range was limited.
thanks Bill

You can run 'IR' down 22 gauge wire for I bet a mile, don't think that is the problem.

Thanks Matt, I've been thinking the same thing. I have to get some time to work it out. Good to know that it atleast isn't the cable. Especially after fishing it through walls..
