Any advice for good sources for AV racks? I found some at smarthome.com but the prices were a bit frosty... Thanks.

I know that you don't live in Europe, but for other people who will visit this thread later, www.aldenkamp.com has some very nice furniture and at least everyone can get some inspiration from it. The site is in Dutch and I'm not aware if they sell outside Holland or not.

This is an image of the Model #7412 "Visions" from
Bush Furniture ( www.bushfurniture.com ) it has the
"Galaxy" finish. You can also get the model #7912 which
is in the traditional cherry finish. These are assemble
at home products constructed of MDF (Medium Density
Fiberboard) I purchased my cabinent from BestBuy on
sale for $89.00 and I am very pleased with it's finish
, design and construction.

This is what the stand looks like beside a TV and gives
you an idea as to the dimensions and what it would look
like when set up.

John,

Checkout http://www.middleatlantic.com/ they are manufactucterers of the stuff smarthom sells. Pick out the catalog numbers you are interested in and the go to http://www.avscope.net/ their prices are better and their delivery is quicker.

Other racks to consider if building into a cabinet or closet, although not cheap: [Link: avrak.com]

Greve,
Awesome site (www.aldenkamp.com ) with incredibly cool furniture. Too bad Holland is an ocean apart.
Greetings from Montreal,

I checked some of those sites out.. Nice but upwards of
3 grand for an A/V rack? (Salemander) Some times you
have to put things into perspective, Is a rack worth 3K
when the RPTV or Projector you own only cost that much?

I bought an Archetype 2.0 and a 5.0, combined them for a seven shelf rack for less than $700.00. Solid cherry shelves and machined rods. A very cool look. Yes, they have some big dollar stuff but look around. Sanus has some good stuff too. Look in the back of all the AV mags at the ads, you'll see a lot of stuff.

Middle Atlantic has the cool stuff. IF you are into metal. Rack mount your gear and make it look tuff to steal also. Also check out www.billybags.com got some cool looking stuff also made in California.

Good Luck

You can also try www.milestek.com. They sell the Mid-Atlantic stuff at pretty decent prices.

I checked the Sanus products out and they do look great
I checked most of the other brands too. I can't see
spending that much money on "open" stands or industrial
looking racks.. The metal racks belong in our small
server room at work not in my living room. And open
stands look great (like Sanus) but I like to keep dust
off of the gear when it's not in use.. And I hate
dusting! :)
