i am kind of interested in wireless
technology. i use a wireless keyboard and mouse
and if the infrared port on my computer was on
the side instead of the front, i would get an
infrared printer. when bluetooth becomes more
accepted, all external computers components will
be wireless and probably can interact with your
bluetooth cell phone.

i hadn't jumped into wireless speakers because
people seem to think they are not that great for
surround.

thxs.

Just an FYI Blutooth is pretty much dead now...due to the 802.11B and forthcoming 802.11a standards...Tony

Slocko,

I wish I would have known your situation because I would not have
Recommended that setup if I had known you couldn’t run speaker
Wire from the Receiver to the speakers. There isn’t a wireless setup
That comes to mind where you do not have to run wire between the
Wireless receiver and the speakers. Unless some of the kits that come
With a pair of speakers actually have a wireless receiver in each speaker
Unit But you won’t be able to use a good set of separate speakers in that
Particular application.

As for the “cheap” remotes.. The silver remote is needed to control the
Wireless receiver (it sends RF signals to the Receiver that allows you to
Adjust the volume, balance, bass, treble and mute function) I am not sure
What other remote they sent you (are they key chain remotes?) if so those
Are not cheap. They are water tight and used to control X-10 setups.

I am sorry that the product did not work like you needed it to. I am sure
You could send it back to X-10 if worst came to worst.

It's my fault for not thinking logically about it.

Couldn't they have two receivers and the transmitters send left and right signals? You would then connect each receiver to each speaker. Of course the power supply needed for each also limits your placement.

For some reason they also sent a black ugly remote. It's like the silver one, but the buttons are really, really stiff and it's very cheap plastic.

A little help please!

I just got the Wireless Soundpower kit and hooked it up.... No sound except for a bit of crackling. I checked and rechecked the connections -- no go.

I checked the manual for my receiver (Yamaha RX-V795a) and it says that if the internal amplifier is being used there is no output to the RCA terminals; just to the main connectors. Initially when I read this I assumed that as long as I disconnected the surround connections from the main connectors then output would be sent to the RCA jacks. Well, no such luck.

I verified that the Soundpower system was working by using another source -- everything sounded OK so I knew that there was no output to the RCA jacks. Now I'm perplexed and want to ask for expert advice before I do something potentially stupid.

My inclination is to cut off the RCA plug and wire the input to the Soundpower kit directly to the main connectors; but I'm wary of this because I don't know if this will be bad for either my receiver or the Soundpower kit. I.e. I'd be hooking a 10W mini amp in series with the 85W main amp. Could this damage something?

Steve,

No you do NOT want to cut off the RCA Plug!

Check your receivers options menue for in and output
and see if you can select preamp out on or off for
the surround. You may have to "enable" the preamp
output..

Well then I think I'm SOL. I've read the manual cover to cover (skipped the french part 'cause I didn't learn enough during high-school) and there's no reference to activating the rear pre-outs. ARGH!

Unless there's someone out there who knows how to activate the rear pre-outs on a Yamaha RX-V795a???

Although I believe that you won't find a wireless system at any price that really sounds good enough for a serious surround system, I thought I'd mention this:

I have a Recoton system, just for background music on the deck, etc. It has a stereo transmitter, with a little, tiltable disc antenna, and two receiving speakers, with a separate 12v. power supply for each one. Each speaker is internally amplified, and has a left/right/both switch, in case you want mono in two different locations. Also, each speaker has a 'tune' knob and LED for fine-tuning the reception. I bought it used at the same store where I bought my BP-2000 system. I'll find a model number if you want.

Larry,

The X-10 system sounds great beleive it or not.. The
whole title of this post was ill conceived because I
did not RTFM before I posted my opinions. After I went
back and did a setup I was astounded as to how good the
X-10 system pushed a massive set of AR 216 Bookshelf's
which are rated up to 200 watts each.

If the distances are short and you don't have many
other wireless devices to cause interference the sound
quality ain't bad at all. Of course when I got my Onkyo
DS787 I felt like I was wasting that 100 watts per chan
so I felt the compulsive urge to string cable...

I sold my wireless set to our very own Mike Riley and
I actualy had to think twice about selling because I
was going to use it to broadcast MP3's from my PC to
my 787!
