Before any of you get on your respective hobby horses about how irretrievably bad Bose's A-M series are, I confess to owning the A-M 5. You're all right - they suck for Hi-Fi. (Don't panic, my 5.1 system is all Sonus Faber with Rotel 1095 & a valve pre for CDs). Any way, is the Bose's satelite output from the 'sub' full range or fed from a x-over? I'm thinking of sticking a couple of Boston Acoustics speakers on the wall instead of the cubes.

Your thoughts please, gentlemen...

Cheers,

JDC.

I have always read from several web-based sources (non-Bose) that the outputs from the sub do contain a highpass crossover to help filter out bass from the cubes. You might call Bose and see what they say.

Hi-Fi News (magazine from the UK) tests the AM-5 against others in it's price range in the August issue. As you've already kinda guessed, it didn't fare well. They ran frequency response sweeps and the bass output from the "sub" is very poor. Depending on what type of Bostons you buy, and where/how you place them, they may have as good or better bass than the Bose "sub." So, you may not even need to bother with trying to hook up both.

Be careful, if I remember correctly, the sub is looking for about 1/2 ohm impedance from the cubes, I am not sure how a normal 8 ohm speakers.
