I have an older Hitachi TV that only has two video imputs but I have three devices, i.e. satellite, VCR and DVD.
Got a remote control video selector but the Pronto will not learn the IR codes.
Is there a way to accomodate my 3 devices and only have one remote, i.e., the Pronto?
Promised my wife one remote and now it looks like I am in trouble!!

You can buy a reasonably priced receiver and some cheap speakers to handle your video/sound connections. You would just connect your tv to the receiver.

They also sell adapters that give you more rca connections. You can check your Radio Shack, Best Buy, Whiz, Circuit City.

What switcher do you have? It seems strange the Pronto couldn't learn. Did you try new batteries in the switcher remote when learning to the Pronto. You might try asking this in the Pronto forum.

Spiky, It is an Emerson Audio Video Selector that has 4 in, 1 out with an IR discrete for each of the four buttons but the manufacturer won't give out anything except two single four digit codes - not IR hexadecimals. I tried learning through PE and Pronto to no avail - another person on the Pronto forum had the same problem. Thought maybe I did something wrong so I tried learning to my button with another remote and it worked immediately so it has to be the Emerson product that is screwing things up.

Sima also makes an A/V switcher with discrete input selection, it is called the svs-4. It has some other cool features. 4 in (composite or s-video) 2 out it does composite to s-video (so that you don't need more then one s-video plug) it can do automatic input selection, and automatic volume stabilization (I have not used it, but supposedly you can change the range between louder and softer sounds)

Be aware that one remote does not necessarily mean easier to operate!! In some cases people actually find it harder.

The key is to make the remote as user friendly as possible, the Pronto is probably the best remote on the market right now (in a reasonable price range)

Sunlight can actually trigger IR....a company called Audioplex Technology makes some 'sun blocker' IR gear that really works well, up to 25' in direct sunlight!!

Even worse than sunlight is Neon lighting...I've actually watched tv's in bars change channels when the neon is turned on!!
