Whoops, I screwed up the first letter, anyway we do a lot of theater installs with all the same brand equipment (all Sony, etc.) usually with a learning universal remote and they work fantastic (everything is a one button push easy operation). Sometimes though customers have their own equipment and it usually is a mix of brands. One thing I have done is to dedicate a button on the remote to turn everything in the theater on, so it is ready if and when they switch to it and when they are done, a button will then turn everything back off. It works fairly well but customers seem to get components out of sequence and things that should come on don't because somehow they were left on from before. I think you know what I mean. Anyway what ideas have ya'll come up with with this kind of install, or is this about it.

One thing that is really nice about Sony is the seperate On and Off Ir commands their equipment uses instead of the same ir command acting and both on and off like most others.

I do custom CCF files for people all the time and I've yet to come across anyone with all the same gear. The easiest way to deal with it is finding discrete on/off codes for each device and calling during the various marco's. For gear with power toggles its a pain in the butt to deal with but its not impossible you just have to think about what the end user will be doing.

Yeah, I guess this really was not a good question. I know what you mean, thinking about what the customer has and how to use it and I feel I have come up with good programs for the remotes but they are just not as stable as when you have all the same brand components. Oh well, just wondered what some of yall thought about it.

There is only one real solution to the problem. Use a higher end remote system that senses the power status of the equipment and in 'intelligent'. Thus if a component is on, it will not emit the power command thus turning it off if it was already on....

If you need more info, please contact me at mras@citilink.com

you CAN do this with the pronto and a couple of other parts.

Hey Matt, the main problem is that the people that are trying to save money by using their own equipment or going out and buying all the components on sale and then asking us to hook it up are not about to spend the money on a high dollar remote control.
But I am very curious about your response since it may pay off down the road so please tell me a little more about it and how you have used it.

Actually you can get high end performance without spending a fortune....you can even do it for little more than a full retail cost pronto with custom CCF programming.

I would be happy to help anyone interested!
