Ipurchased a sony speaker system like this about 7 years ago. At the time was the top of the line surround system available. I recently hooked something up wrong trying to add additional speakers and fried an amplifyer board. The system has the reciever and amps built in. The problem is that the cost of the repair would be out of the world and instead of just needed a reciever, I had to purchase an entire new system. The main speakers are not compatable with any reg. reciever. I love sony, but would recommend getting the sourround sound in seperate pieces, which sony does have available.

I just purchased the SAVA-D900. It is a 5 disc DVD changer, tuner, pre-amp, amplifier, speaker unit. It has everything you need to set up your Home Theater. I had a Paradigm (speakers), Kenwood (receiver), Sony (DVD) setup before this, but had to give it up due to apartment living :). The Sony SAVA is not bad for a all in one package (it is an attractive unit). The sound is acceptable, the DVD performance is awesome, and the remote is your typical Sony remote.
To be honest with you, I fought my better half all the way when she said all of our previous equipment was too much and we had to downsize, but this SAVA unit is a pretty decent unit for anyone that has to downsize or anyone that is just getting into Home Theater. The unit also comes in at a reasonable price ($1000.00).
