I have noticed that Velodyne has created L/R and surrounds and a center as well as there great subwoofers. Does anybody know if these are great speakers or what. They are Satelites but I believe they are better than Bose.

Jason: Your chances with Velodyne are supremely better than with the Bose product. IMHO.

First off, I wouldn't say I am any kind of expert in audio, but I do own Velodyne speakers. I own the CT-120 sub, which, IMO, is the best Sub I have ever heard. It goes sooo low with no detectable amount of distortion and it can hit very tight bass. I also have the l/r/c/s speakers as well. I believe the model is ct40 adn ct50 for center? Anyway, they are super crisp with no hissing at all(probably due to the amp). I am amazed by these speakers everyday. A couple of things to mention. I run a H/K AVR210 with my speakers and I am the "budget" buyer. So considering I have a low budget and a low-end amp, I feel that they are the best speakers for the money. Bose always lacked one very important thing IMO, MID RANGE! I hate that.

That is a good question. Unfortunately I don't know the answer as I am new to all of this. I started getting back into Home Theater about 4 months ago. I'm sure that most any $400 and up amp will make these speakers sound killer. Like I said, I am very pleased with them. Good luck with your decision.

I have this set up driven by a Onkyo 696 and it is crisp, clear, and could not be happier.

Hope this helps.

Dave, Please tell us about your Onkyo 696 as I am considering purchasing on of these to go with my Krix speakers and Velodyne CT100.

Thanks in advance

Here are some of the highlights:

Has DPL II

Volume control is 0 to 79

Internal crossover for sub is set at 80Hz (so set your sub at 80)There is no manual setting for this.

Does video Switching:
1. Composite input is switched to S-video out.
2. Has Highband width for HD signals- above 30Mhz.
3. Has 2 component inputs and 1 output.

Has 8 DSP settings.

Remote will control additional components- Will learn additional commands if needed. Has pre-programmed codes.

Optical/Digital inputs for audio.

OSD for easy setup. The manual was easy to understand- IMO.

I cannot complain about this unit at all. It is serving all my current needs and I use it everyday for TV, SAT and DVD, etc. viewing.

If you have any specific questions, please post them and I will do my best to answer them.

Hope this helps.

It goes to 79!!!

ROFL

I would definatly buy an Onkyo, or another great choice in the Marantz in the same price point.

Yes, a lot of receivers have this -/+ on the volume control. This 0 to 79 is pretty straight forward. Don't worry I have calibrated this system using AVIA and my SPL and you will hit the reference of 85db with plenty of room to spare. Since most people will not watch movies at the reference standard of 85db and choose to calibrate to 75db- you'll come in at about 55 on the volume control.

Hope this helps.
