It undoubtedly makes a difference on a THX-certified receiver, but there are still many excellent receivers out there that aren't THX rated and can provide similar sound. With that said, I myself have a THX amp.

THX is a certification standard forced on the world by Lucas. While it is nice to have a standard to compare to not everyone agrees with Lucas. THX certified components are good and meet at least a minimum standard. But non-THX doesn't signify bad components.
Case in point - YAMAHA.

The real thing I think your looking for is a recommendation. I would recommend going the extra distance in buying a THX Receiver as long as the rest of your equipment is THX rated or the equivalent. A system is only as good as its weakest Link.

"THX is a certification standard forced on the world by Lucas." And then he won't even release any movies on DVD to take advantage of THX. I for one would not buy THX for this reason.

"I would recommend going the extra distance in buying a THX Receiver as long as the rest of your equipment is THX rated or the equivalent. A system is only as good as its weakest Link."
This is an invalid assumption. THX is mostly a rating system when it comes to equipment. Just because a DVD player is THX doesn't mean a non-THX receiver weakens the system. For all equipment but the receiver, THX is little more than a level of quality. And not all manufacturers care about THX certification. As mentioned before, Yamaha is never certified, probably because they like their own version of surround sound processing over Lucas'.
Not buying a THX-certified component because Star Wars (or others) isn't on DVD yet is petty and bitter. Note the YET.....
