I own a Sony DVP550D DVD player, and am not sure if I'm using the players DD decoder or my recievers(Onkyo TXDS555). I was wondering if anyone knows how to set it up so that my reciever does the decoding, as I have heard that it does a better job than the DVD player. I'm gonna look through the DVD players manual, but I figured if I can't find anything there, then someone here will know. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thx in advance.

Use the digital outputs, either coax or optical. Then the receiver is decoding. The only way for the DVD player to decode is if you use the 6-way output.
If you are using the stereo outputs, red/white, you are not getting 5.1, only Pro Logic/stereo.
