Merlin asked: Do any of you guys give free advice? I am wondering how to hide my speaker wires. I dont have access to the ceiling or basement and the wall where the receiver sits is separated from the rest of the room by carpet. I can run most of it under the floor board then fish-tape it under the carpet to the wall but I was hoping for something that looks really clean. I wanted to get them in the wall but Im not sure how to get past the studs. Any suggestions from the pros (or anyone else).

I am not an installer. But at work when we needed to hide some wires that were going to follow one of the walls, we used a product from Panduit,it is not hidden, but it is not ugly either

Here is a link to an older thread on the subject of cabling, it has a link to Panduit [Link: remotecentral.com]

If you have baseboards, I have seen people that take them off, hollow out an area into the wall, put your wires in the groove you made and put the baseboards back on.

You can also rip out the drywall if you are really serious :)

You can also purchase flat speaker wire, which you can mount on the wall. It's just a few millimeters thick and can easily be painted over or wallpapered over.

One note on running speaker wires under the rug. Run them away from any foot traffic if posible. Over a period of time the insulation can wear and if the two wires touch....Well I guess you get the picture.
Amp output stages are not real pleased when this happens.

I ran my wire where the wall meets the ceiling, and then had crown molding installed to cover the wires. It came out great, it really looks custum.

When we moved in our new apartment my wife and I. I dedicated a room for a custum made library where we installed our home theater. I hate wires I didn't want to see a single one! I ran my wires in grooves behind wood panels and under the parquet for the surround speakers where the french doors are.
No wires are showing and the result is stunning.
