Do all Dolby Digital receivers cut off the low frequency at 80hz when you set the speakers to 'small', or does each manufacturer differ?
If they differ, does anyone know what the cut off is for Sony's STR-DA333 ES?

Thanks, Rob

They differ - on my Sony STR-D945 you can set the cutoff to NONE (by setting the speakers to large) - only the LFE (.1) channel goes the the subwoofer or 60, 90, 120, 150 or 180 Hz

This can be set separately for the front, center and rear speakers.

The reciever you are looking at is probably similar since most of the spec for it look like mine plus more goodies. www.crutchfield.com is a better source for specs & features than the Sony site but they do not list this detail.

Jim, exactly how do you get to the 60, 90, etc. settings on your receiver?

I can't seem to find that through any of the setup info on mine. Argh!

Thanks, Rob

I'll check it out when I get home (actually tomorrow as I am going to hear real music tonight - IE live) and let you know.

It was on one of the configuration pages and much easier to find on the ON-Screen display than using the front panel.

Here's how its done
1) hit cursor mode until you are in the SETUP mode (or hit setup on the fron panel)
2) set you speakers to Small (If set to large all bass for that channel goes to the speaker and only the LFE .1 channel gos to the subwoofer)
3) Set the subwoofer to ON!
4) Now cycle though the setup options and you will find crossover frequency for front, center and surround channels - the option ar 60, 90, 120, 150 or 180

Works like a Charm on the STR-D945
