Component to VGA adapter? Progressive Scan or Built In Line Doubler?

I've just purchased a Loewe Aconda, and find it to be incredible. One question though. I've noticed that it can only accept a Hi-Def or 480p signal via the RGB connector. Right now I am using the Sony S9000ES player with the component output set to interlace and using the internal line doubler in the Loewe. I wonder if the picture would be better if I used the Progressive component outputs on the player and pu it through either some sort of adapter or special cable to feed the VGA input on the TV. I know there is some image loss when you convert signals, but what would you all suggest. The line doubler in the Loewe uses 3:2 pulldown, and it exceptional, but I've also read very good things about the Sony progressive architecture.

If you think I should use an adapter and feed the VGA, any brands or models in particular to look at? How much improvement will be seen?

Thanks,
Jon

I've also got a 9000ES. Great box. I don't, however, have a Loewe. I can only suggest that outputting a progressive source is going to do you better in the long run (especially from this player!) than trusting the one in the Loewe. (Now, IF Loewe's doubler was secretly developed by Faroudja, i'll stand happily corrected... then rush out and buy one...)

I'm a bit confused as to why you'd want to feed VGA into it from the DVD? If the Loewe can accept 480p, that's exactly what you'll be stuffing into it with progressive output via the Sony's component output... unless Sony somehow gives it a little upgrade to 720p on the way out the door?

The Loewe can only input 480P (or 720P or 1080i for that matter) via the VGA input. The sony player only has component outputs, so I'm wondering if there is an adapter that is made to go from component to VGA?

Thanks,
Jon

Loewe isn't quite Faroudja, but it is pretty incredible.

Jon,
Loewe distributes a component to vga unit, DTV100, it sells for less than $200. The component inputs on the Aconda accept only an interlaced signal (for those who don't know), so for the 480p or 720p and even the 1080i has to come through the VGA input. Your Loewe dealer may have one in stock, mine does.

Patrick, thanks so much for the info. I'll check it out. Have you seen such a unit? Does it function pretty well?

Thanks again,
Jon

Pat,
Wondering if you ever got your unit, and if you could share your experience.

Thanks,

Jon,
I have the Component to VGA adapter but haven't been able to set it up yet as my main ss processor is being replaced. I should have it going within a couple of weeks.

Patrick, let us know how the adaptor works out. I may swith from my DVM3700 Denon DVD if the adaptor works well. Jon did you see the stand that matches the TV. You got the 30" widescreen one?

I'm using the 30 inch one now on a loan from my dealer, but have ordered the 38 inch one and am waiting for it to come in (any day now). I haven't seen the stand, I'm using a Salamander TV stand for it.

The line doubler built in is phenomenal, but I would like to at least try the progressive from the 9000ES.

Jon,
Unfortunately I haven't been able to find out how well the adapter works. I was planning on connecting my 720P source but have found out from Loewe that they only support 480p or 1080i through the vga input. Hopefully someone with a 1080i source will provide the info.

Which model is this that you are talking about? I know the Aconda can take 720P
