Would just like to report that this control works perfectly with the Dishplayer 501. It learnt codes with no problem. I have to wonder why Dish states that there unit does not work with any other remote?

Thanks to all who gave me input on this issue.

Hi,
No problem, I will dig it out, actually I used another persons codes, there are already a couple of them posted here. The only thing to be careful about is the codes are different dependent upon which device number you have the 501 set to, mine is 5.

Where did you get your info on this? I tried my pronto on the demo PVR501 and it didn't do a thing. Didn't even think to try to learn codes to it since I thought it was transmitting UHF. Sorry if I skeptical, but are you sure! I want a new reciever that operates with my Pronto so bad I'm thinking of going to direct tv. I don't really know what I'm rambling about, I can just go in and see if I can learn codes. Do you know if the remote has to be switched to IR, or the reciever to accept IR. They didn't have a manuel when I went in to look at it. Thanks.

I just had a PVR 501 installed. The installer says it's UHF only. The remote taht comes with it does IR only for other devices.

Is this baloney or has Dish come out with a new version of the PVR 501. My model number simply says "DISHPVR501"

I'll be really pissed if the one that is delivered is different than the one I tried on display. It was the 501 and my remote learned its codes just fine. Dish hopefully doesn't know their product very well. I never got a straight answer out of them and finally just went and tried it. So just stick your remote up there and try it for yourself.

Although miost of the dish people are very nice, they don't seem to have a very in depth knowledge of the product. Lets face it, if you are hanging around this board you are a bit of a techno nerd (myself included). The call center folks just don't have that bend. At least 3 times I have asked them if any other remotes work with 501 and they said no. I think they know what Dish trains them to know, they are not "envelope pushers" if automating home theater can be called that.

I don't think there is a 501 that is onluy UHF. Aquick test would be is to take off the antrna from the back of the unit and see if it still works. Without the antena it must rely on IR.

Good Luck!
