The dish network rcvrs have provision for connecting a remote extender to enable control of a vcr where the signal emitted by the receiver is not strong enough. I need an extender for my system and dish network techs have been little help. I would like to know where to get such and failing that I'd appreciate info on the mating connector and how the led's in the extender are connected. The connector looks like a 3/32 super mini.

Thanks
Dee

Dee, the impression I've gotten is that they're pretty much all the same, meaning they all work in everybody's equipment. I doubt they'll admit that, but you can try.

I know that Smarthome sells them, and a lot of home automation catalogs carry them. Try asking in the X-10 forum, too.

From www.echostaruser.org....Under Systems

Accessories

If you have trouble controlling your VCR from your 4700 or Dishplayer, you can connect an IR mouse extender to the accessory port on your receiver.

Order a "Blast IR extender, (mouse tail)", Echostar part # 123479181. Dish's dealers don't usually stock this part, but you can order it directly from Echostar. Call DISH's parts dept. (which is also the Return Authorizations dept.) at 888-220-3474.

The mouse tail has a specific connector, i. e. other's will not work. All receiver's since the 4700 support this.

That's a good point, the connector on the back of Dish boxes looks like a DC power input, rather than the typical mini-headphone plug used by IR extenders. I'm not sure that X-10 actually has one that would work for Dish.
