How do the wide screen RPTVs handle the shows like ER and Enterprise which are being broadcast in letterbox? Does the TV figure out that it's widescreen so that it can display it as such or do you end up with black bars at the left/right AND top/bottom?

Just like for non-anamorphic letterbox DVD's, we have to use one of the stretch or zoom modes. On my Toshiba I use TheaterWide 2 which zooms the picture so that a letterbox image fills the screen without distortion.

That makes sense. No way for the TV to know the difference...Thanks.
