Nols,

Go to Circuit City and buy a Philips DSR6000R for $99! It is a dual-tuner (after the free software update) TiVo DirecTV satellite tuner. You can watch one channel while recdording another, and even record two while watching a previous recording.

I suggest getting two at that price. You can also get a dual-LNB dish for only a penny more! I got two DSR6000Rs, a dish, and 5-year extended warranty on everything for $245 + tax.

You will need a 3-in/4-out multiswitch so each tuner gets two coaxial cables. They offer several great promotional packages for programming, too.

Like that idea the only problems are mounting the dish on the roof and running the cable before it gets to could out and the fact that my room mate pays for cable so I had digital cable and the plane old cable to.

Nols,

The dish does NOT have to go on the roof. I mounted mine on the edge of my front porch. I aimed the dish myself and got a 90-95 signal strength over all transponders. Took all of 15 minutes.

You and your roommate should find that splitting the DirecTV bill will provide more, better service for less money. Drop the cable and use a regular antenna, or downgrade the service to local-channels-only if you're not in a city that has local-on-DSS service.
