I'm stumped. I've used a Sony HD100 receiver’s component output to a HD monitor on input one and composite from the HD100 to the Tivo. This arrangement works only if the client remembers to leave the receiver in the composite output mode otherwise when the Tivo tries to record it will receive no signal.... Is there any HD receiver that simultaneously outputs component video and either S, composite or RF at the same time?? I have also tried the RCA DTC100 but no luck. Thanks in advance.

So far the answer to your question is no ...What may be the solution is to buy a cheap reciever to record from most any would do. We use that as our solution.

Hey Pat,
It's been a little while since you posted this thread, but I recently installed a full boat HD satellite system (Sony HD100) with a Pioneer Elite theater system. And the customer will be getting TIVO added. It really sucks having to explain to him that to watch HD programming he will have to set the Satellite receiver to an HD output mode, but to record it on TIVO or a VCR you will have to switch it to regular composite mode. Have you heard of any other manufactures that make a sat receiver that will output both formats at the same time? Or basically, what have you come up with as a soultion.

It's not really a major problem, but it is a little annoying as to why they can't design it with this kind of application in mind.

Oh well
Let me know what you know
Jeff

Mitsubishi makes the HD400, a discretely switch-able HD tuner capable of tuning Cable, Off-Air and Satellite sequentially. This is a fantastic solution when using tivo and a macro-capable learning remote. The SD/HD button on the remote is a revolving code and switches between Component HD (1080i) and RF, Composite, and S-Video SD (480i).

RCA makes the more discretely controllable albeit less desirable DTC-100. It does not combine Cable, Off-Air, and Satellite, and has sync problems when switching sources.

Jeff,
I haven't checked in on my post in a while because when I got Dave's response I used his solution, which is use a separate inexpensive receiver for Tivo purposes only (thanks Dave), and keep the HD tuner strictly for HD. This solution is indeed cheap and works well. As for discretely switching units the RCA DTC100 has hidden codes for that but again they do you no good because for the Tivo's purposes both output jacks need to be on all the time.

You can use a DTC-100 easily. We have discreet commands for everything just about everything. Of course my first suggestion is a second receiver, but if you don't want to do that just have the pronto turn the HD moniter off on the dtc-100 when you shut the system down and back on when you turn the system back on.

I use a combination SAT/TIVO unit dedicated to recording and PIP and a separate HD sat for HD. Costs a bit more, but takes up less space and provides a lot of flexibility in configuration.
How hard can this be?
