I rencently switched from cable to DirectV. I rarely watch live TV (annoying commercials), so I used to record everthing I watch by programming the VCR to record automagically.
With DirectV, there doesn't seem to be a method to do this. The Satellite receiver (RCA-DRD420RE)and the Mitsubishi HS-U570 don't seem to talk quite the same language.
I rigged the VCR's "cable box control" IR-LED so the RCA unit can see it. I told the VCR that the source was "Satellite 1" (as the manual says). Now, when using the VCR's remote to change channels, the RCA box recognizes the numbers entered for the channel entry, but the VCR does not seem to send the equivalent of the "OK" button to acually change the RCA box's channel. If I press the satellite remote "OK" button, the channel changing sequence completes normally. Without that "OK", it remains on the current channel.
I do NOT want to MANUALLY set the RCA box's channel before being able to record something if I'm out. Kind of defeats the purpose :-)
What can I do? THANKS!!!!

Go to Circuit City and buy a Phillips DSR6000 PVR unit for $99.95. It will cost you $5.00 a month for the Tivo service from DirecTV but should solve your problem and give you much better quailty. See the thread: [Link: remotecentral.com]
