Another newbie question. If I have two receivers in my home, do I have to pay for two seperate accounts and seperate subscriptions of Sunday Ticket for instance?

No, You do not have to pay for two separate account. However, you do have to pay an “Extra-Receiver” Fee. I think it’s a minimal fee (around $5).

Thanks.

I have another question though. From what I understand I have to have an existing phone line that has service. Is this true? Right now I just have a cell phone that I use for calls and a cable modem. I would hate to have to get phone service just for this purpose.

You cannot use more than one receiver without having a valid phone line. That way you can't have three of your friends spliting the account with you by having a system at 4 different locations on the same single home account.

I may be wrong, but I think you would only need a Phone Line hooked up if you are using PPV.

Hey Andrew,
I had this issue come up as well, and I talked with the DSS rep and they said that the phone line must be hooked up with the additional receivers because they do report in once a month and if it fails to report in after so much time, you will be charged full price for both receivers. I came up because we had a customer that called because their billing was automatically change to full price for both receivers. We found that the receivers had been hooked to two different phone numbers in his house. DSS notified them of this problem and would not correct the billing until they were all on the same phone number.

Andrew,

You are correct for DISH...they do not require a phone line unless you want PPV. Direct wants to see a phone line to even activate the box! And Jeff is correct that they check in on you on a non-scheduled basis!

A phone line is only needed for multiple receiver or PPV via remote. For example you own a boat and you can have one DSS receiver with no phone line, but you must call for PPV. If you want more then one receiver or to order PPV via. remote, all receivers must be hooked to same line to verify they are at same location. This is with DTV.

For mobile operation of short duration (or just operation of a receiver in a room where phone connection isn't convenient) you CAN order PPV, up to the limit that can be tracked on the smartcard. Bring the receiver in from the trailer/boat/motorhome when you are home and plug it in overnight so that it can "phone home" and report your purchases. This will clear your card and allow you to then order more PPV. A DirecTV card will hold, I think, 25 purchases. You want to be sure to do this from your normal phone so the reported phone number matches up with your account.

My take here is that two tuners are two tuners (if the PVR contains its own tuner), so, yes.
