I have a Motorola DCT2200 and a Yamaha RXV-1000. The DCT has coax digital out. With the Yamaha set to auto on cable/Sat on Digital cable channels there is no problem. The display shows Auto:PCM, and I have sound. When I am in the standard cable band I have no sound and the display show Auto:PCM. If I switch the Yamaha to Analog I have sound. If when the Yamaha is in Auto and I unplug the coax I have sound and the display shows Auto:Analog. There must be some signal (but no audio) on the digital out of the DCT.

Any help on this?

Thanks,
aaron

Your Cable company does not broadcast digital PCM on all channels. Only on your Digital ones. Also your Cable Box does not have A/D converters in it. D/A yes.
Motorola came out with the DTC2400 to correct this issue. By installing a A/D converter in the set top box. For non PCM channels. their A/D converter sounds like crap. Keep it analog for now.
A lot of Satellite boxes on the market have the same thing. They might output Digital 2.0 and only on certian movies will they output Digital 5.1 It also has to do with the broadcast.

Hope this will help

Thanks for the reply. What my question really is----is; Why does my receiver still see some signal on the digital input when in auto-decode that prevents it from switching to analog as it should? I think there must be a carrier output on the digital out from the DCT box all of the time....?

I once tried to use a DCT-2000 with a Sima AV switcher. The Sima acted like there was a signal coming from the cable box all the time, even if the cable box was off. I didn't test to see if it was an audio or video signal, though. In any case, it was annoying and I did not find a way to work around it.

Aaron,

I'm having the same problem as you with the DCT-2000 box. I too have mine set to use AUTO for Digital/Analog audio but it doesn't work. The pre-amp always see a digital signal even though I'm watching analog. I have to do the Digital/Analog manually, it sucks !!
