I am a firts time poster, sorry if this is in the wrong place.

I have a new Mitsubishi 65 inch widescreen and a Mitsubishi DVD. I am thinking about getting an HDTV decoder. Do you know where I can find out (websites, magazines, tv guide, etc.) what programs are broadcast in the Washington DC area in HDTV?

I know satellite broadcasts some in HD, but I'm not sure exactly which programs other than HBO. I know they are broadcasting over the airwaves and you need a special antenna and the decoder.

Any help would be appreciated.

Paul,
I have HDTV in the Washington area. Channel 4, 5, 7, and 9 (NBC FOX ABC CBS) are broadcasting HDTV channels (in the 30s and 40s). The 16:9 HDTV shows are limited (usally a few at prime time). I have and RCA 100 DirecTV receiver and decoder. It remaps the local channels to 4-1, 5-1 and 9-1 (for some reason it did not remap ABC to 7-1). DirecTV only broadcasts two channels 509 (HBOH) and 199 (pay-for-view). 199 shows a lot of demos as well. I love it, but I would like to see more HDTV programming and would love to get an HDTV Tivo system (if they ever get one).

As for the antenna, I am using the same old roof antenna I got a few years ago and it works fine. I did need a new dish though. I had to upgrade my 18 inch to a 22" oval with two dual UMBs. Which also allowed me to get the NASA channel along with a few others and supports upto four receivers.

Hope that helps.

Hi Paul,

Here are the HD channels in DC. BTW, all HD channels are UHF.

NBC - Channel 48 (regular Ch 4)
FOX - Channel 36 (regular Ch 5)
ABC - Channel 39 (regular Ch 7)
CBS - Channel 34 (regular Ch 9)
PBS - Channel 27 (not the same as regular Ch 26)

CBS leads the way in programming, mostly in primetime. Fox and NBC have some. ABC has a few movies once in a long while. PBS runs excelent loops from 11am to 11pm.

If you have a roof mounted antenna, you can add a rotator that would allow you to pick up signals from Baltimore also.

I have the DTC-100 and I pickup all DC and Balto HD stations very well.
